Sportsmen

Hello again! First post in ages. Good to be back home after long trip to California this summer. Many highlights and delicious stone fruits eaten but the best was being a guest on Josiah Steinbrick and Devendra Banhart's Dublab radio show a few weeks ago. Very thankful to have met these lovely, funny people. The show is now up on Dublab for streaming and download. Art by my son Sinjin. Happy listening!

Music & Poetry of the Kesh

This cassette is included in Ursula Le Guin's novel Always Coming Home, which is about a valley people called the Kesh "who might be going to have lived a long, long time from now in Northern California." The cassette features music by Todd Barton and serves as a kind of anthropological primer on Kesh music and poetry. Very, very beautiful tape, well worth seeking out. Support Barton by buying here. One of these songs is on Spencer D.'s awesome new mix!

The Girl From the South

By the brilliant Richard Woolley in 1988. This movie made me buy a walkman! She is closing her eyes and listening to Elgar.

Richard Demarco Archives

My goodness, what a joy to peruse Richard Demarco's archives. So many great photos. He was on the film set of The Wicker Man! Patterns start to emerge as you go through the decades... field trips to Malta, to stone circles... Peter Blake makes a cameo... Start in 1968 and just go onwards.

Père Léonide

Léonide Chrol (1902-1982), Russian priest, collagiste, painter, and pianist living in the Montauban commune in the Pyrénées. Made odd, trancelike compositions on out-of-tune pianos...

WOODPECKERS DON'T GET HEADACHES. Best drumming scenes! And a good look for the director, D. Asanova.
