Madeleine Helfer

I found this record out thrifting the other day. Appears to be private press, titled simply "Folk Guitar." It was sleeveless, and I haven't been able to find any information about Madeleine Helfer. I like this record though because her voice sounds a bit like Josephine Foster. Very quiet, melancholy trad standards and a civil war song that is really beautiful.

Life's a Beach

We saw the Martin Parr beach show at the college museum yesterday. Would love to have a huge blow up of the Japanese indoor ocean!

Robin Lehman

Just learned about Robin Lehman, the genius behind a whole catalog of 1970s educational films about winged flight and marine animals among other things. Fans of Jacques Cousteau and Jean Painlevé will like the underwater ones. Amazing spectrum of colors there on the ocean floor. 'Wings and Things' explores the human desire to fly and involves a trance-inducing sequence about the making of a delicate gossamer plane only molecules thick. A few short youtube extracts below.

Lawrence Weiner posters

<

Love these posters. Have been trying to see Weiner's movie Plowman's Lunch but have had no success. Looks very Mike Leigh.
