Public Collectors
In Chicago I picked up Self-Reliance Library, a booklet put out by the Temporary Services collective. It's a great resource that assembles both older and more recent reference materials for creative living, including a lot of instructional manuals for Ant Farm-style environmental sculptures. I was curious and did a little sleuthing, which led me to the related site Public Collectors. WOW. Make sure to take a look at the amazing PDF catalog for cover-to-cover scans of many of the publications mentioned in the booklet. Here are a few samples drawn from a book called Working Big and a dymaxion how-to pamphlet called Domebook (all images from Public Collectors).

Amazing stuff, totally love these! I might also use "simple geodesics" as a title for a track or album if you don't mind...

ReplyDeletehi norm!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the nice post, Ben! Really appreciated and I hope everyone finds some things to download that they enjoy.
ReplyDeleteFor anyone who is interested, all Temporary Services booklets that are in print (and all Public Collectors publications) can be ordered from Half Letter Press - a webstore/publishing imprint that Temporary Services started a few years ago. http://www.halfletterpress.com
Another note: Temporary Services is expanding the Self-Reliance Library and will be doubling or tripling the collection for a show at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia. The new version of that booklet should be at least twice as long and will be out in time for the show. Your blog has been great for suggesting some new titles to look for!
