Mailbox find

Ebay risk-buy. Worked out pretty well! A timebending electronic teach-in on Boosey & Hawkes from 1970. It's interesting how obscure soundtrackers never have names like "Dave Anderson" or "Tim Smith" but always cool ones like "Alcides Lanza" and "Emmanuel Ghent" and "Eugene Cines." I am not familiar with these names at all. They are billed on the sleeve as "The Electronic Studio" which has the resonance of some beard-scratching think tank or research group. This is a timely one as well because there are some nice Ruth White-style haunted house themes for Halloween. Sorry to hold out the candy and then take it back but clips will follow in a mix once the beginning-of-semester dust settles.

  1. TheASCAP composer dbase says Alcides Lanza was a real name, middle name Emigdio.
Evidently, Emmanuel Ghent and Eugene Cines were real and legal names as well.
I sure wish you would change your mind and simply offer this album!

  3. Boosey & Hawkes had as many pseudonyms among the roster as all the others, but occasionally they used real names ;))

Good find. I've never had much luck with the B&H library. I've never found examples up to this standard, anyway.

  4. Aw shucks, N*rm.

Jb -- yeah, there are a lot of clunkers on B&H, but a few rays of light. There's also a cool Dudley Simpson B&H that I've been tracking down. The new D.D. Denham record is amazing btw. Just brilliant.

  5. I'll see if I can find any B&H recommendations for you, there may be one or two.

(I'm glad you like the Denham. Really pleased about that).

  6. I agree with litlgrey, I don't know why you can't just let us download the whole thing instead of only offering us your mix. This stuff is obviously hard to come by and if you want to feel superior surely owning the original should be enough without witholding the mp3 version? The point of sites like this should be to share stuff that is otherwise impossible to get hold of, not just saying look what I've got? Then readers might send stuff to you too.

  7. You're right. Here's a link to the full album at 320 kbps plus high-res cover scans.

  8. Are these mp3's tagged under the proper genre? Are they better than 256? Would sure hate to waste my time. Or is there any chance of putting these up as FLAC?
