The Laceys

Loving this DVD of Bruce Lacey's films. I found a book by the amazing David Alan Mellor that shows some of the original posters for the Laceys' shows and happenings. Seems clear Lacey's wife, Jill Bruce, played a huge role in the best of these. To me the robotics stuff is less interesting than their experiments with living rooms and their rural turn in the 70s. Mellor describes the Lacey's real-time domestic installations as echoing TV shows like The Stone Tape in their concern with the memories embedded in walls.

Mellor also describes the Laceys' life-changing visit to Silbury Hill, and their growing fascination in ley lines, dowsing, pagan rituals, geomancy and the like. Running around the fields wearing robes, etc. Their huge body-shaped PVC inflatables also sound amazing -- I think once you went in through the mouth and arrived at the stomach you would be greeted with a psychedelic light show! Total craziness from Britain's weirdo knight-errant.
